Ecowaste App: Designing Sustainable Waste Solutions

Overview
As part of my final project Independent Study with Zenius x Kampus Merdeka, I designed an App namely Ecowaste, an app to make recycling simpler and more accessible. Our team aimed to boost household participation by offering rewards and showing users nearby drop-off points.

Process
Research & Analysis → Gathered insights through desk research and competitive analysis of waste apps. Identified key gaps like complex flows and limited location awareness.
Define & Ideate → Organized findings into an affinity diagram, framed “How Might We” questions, and prioritized adding a location-aware map feature.
Architecture & Flow → Mapped information architecture and user flow to cover tasks like selecting waste, finding a drop-off point, and earning points.
Design → Built a design system, created wireframes for key screens, and translated them into high-fidelity mockups with a clean and engaging UI.
Prototype → Developed an interactive prototype that demonstrates core flows like waste scanning, point redemption, and location search.
Outcome
The design shows how recycling can be made easier through clear steps, simple navigation, and rewards that motivate people to join. While the app was not tested with users, the prototype reflects solutions based on the problems found in research.
